The Congress government earned a reputation of a people’s government in its true sense by implementing multifarious welfare schemes aimed at uplifting poor and marginalised sections, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
He was speaking at a meeting held in Ananthnagar village of Nelakondapalli mandal in Khammam district on Saturday.
The Deputy CM along with Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy inaugurated a 33/KV substation in Ananthanagar and laid the foundation stone for another substation at Kamanchikal village in Khammam rural mandal late on Saturday afternoon.
He alleged that former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao ruled for nearly 10 years with deceptive promises but miserably failed to deliver on his promise of providing double bedroom houses to homeless people.
He said the Congress government soon after coming to power began constructing Indiramma houses worth ₹5 lakh each as promised. In the first phase, 3,500 houses are being constructed in each Assembly constituency, totalling 4.5 lakh houses statewide, with an expenditure of ₹22,500 crore.
Mr. Srinivas Reddy alleged that the previous BRS rulers looted the surplus State pushing it into a debt of ₹8 lakh crore. The Congress government is implementing a slew of welfare schemes by giving top priority to people’s welfare despite difficulties, he noted. He said that welfare and development were going hand-in-hand in the State. Another phase of Indiramma houses will be sanctioned from April next year, he added.
