The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a ₹107 crore proposal for the upgradation of five major roads in Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).

M.K. Raghavan, MP, who received the official confirmation from the ministry, said the decision would address long-standing demands from residents across multiple regions of the constituency.

According to Mr. Raghavan, a major component of the project would be the reconstruction of the narrow Mavoor-Kuttikkadavu bridge, a persistent traffic bottleneck, along with the improvement of its approach roads. He said the Pulparamba Mukk-Nayarkuzhi-MVR Hospital-Kanniparamba-Kuttikkadavu-Chettikkadavu stretch was allotted ₹20 crore.

Other allocations included ₹29 crore for the Nellamkandi-Elettil-Vattoli-Valliyoth-Karukunnath road, ₹23 crore for the Medical College-Mavoor road, ₹19 crore for the Chathamangalam-Ishtika Bazaar-Sanketham-Thengilakadavu road and ₹16 crore for the Ambalapadi-Moonnilampadam-Pullikkadavu-Kadalundikadavu road.

Mr. Raghavan said he had repeatedly raised the issue of the dilapidated Kuttikkadavu bridge with the Union Ministry and had also urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in July 2024 to include three additional road projects under CRIF. The road works, he said, would substantially improve local connectivity, ease traffic congestions and reduce travel time across the constituency.
