Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday (October 31, 2025) visited the scene of the stampede that occurred during a TVK rally on September 27 at Velusamypuram on the outskirts of Karur.

The team, led by Praveen Kumar, Superintendent of Police, studied the topography of the area and the surrounding approach roads, including the spot where Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay addressed massive crowds from his caravan, his travel route from Velayutham Palayam (the entry point of Karur district from Namakkal) to Velusamypuram, and the shops, eateries, and hospital located at the stampede site.

Some local police personnel were also present when the CBI team undertook the field inspection.

Earlier, CBI officials were said to have conducted an inquiry with Manivannan, the Inspector of Karur Town police station, who initially filed a First Information Report (FIR) on September 27 on the death of several people in the stampede. He presented before them at the Circuit House, which is being used as a temporary office of the CBI.

Acting on the direction of the Supreme Court, the CBI took over the case and began the investigation a few days ago.
