Special Chief Secretary (Home) C. V. Anand visited the Central Prison at Cherlapalli on Thursday to review prison administration, inmate welfare and reformative initiatives being implemented across the State.

The Special Chief Secretary inspected the prison hospital, stores and the Annapurna central kitchen, and visited the industrial complex where inmates are engaged in skill-based activities including manufacturing of soap and home-care products, weaving, carpentry, steel fabrication, tailoring and waste-to-wealth initiatives. He appreciated the standards of the products, the wages paid to inmates, the quality of food and the medical care provided.

Mr. Anand also interacted with inmates, enquiring about living conditions, food, healthcare, education, vocational training and grievance redressal mechanisms. Describing the visit as a valuable learning experience, he appreciated the work of prison officers and staff and lauded reforms introduced under the leadership of Soumya Mishra, including the Nivruthi de-addiction centre for prisoners involved in drug-related cases.

He congratulated Soumya Mishra, IG Prisons N. Murali Babu, DIG Prisons D. Srinivas, Superintendent N. Shiva Kumar Goud and the prison staff for maintaining the Cherlapalli facility and for their efforts towards reform-oriented and humane prison administration.
