KOCHI

The Ernakulam South railway police briefly detained Devinder Singh aka ‘Bunty Chor’ on Monday. He was detained under preventive custody procedures after a police squad identified him during a routine inspection.

According to sources, he told the police that he was in the city to file a petition in the High Court to get released some amount seized from him as part of an investigation into a theft case.

He was released after the police alerted all stations within the Kochi city limits and confirmed that there was no active case pending against him in the State. Singh was convicted by a court in Thiruvananthapuram in 2017 in a burglary case. He was released from jail in 2023.
