Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Deputy Floor Leader in the Assembly, T. Harish Rao, said on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) that his party would not relent until the Telangana government withdraws the notification issued for the acquisition of 1,200 acres of land in Parigi mandal for the proposed industrial park project. He also accused the Revanth Reddy government of miserably failing to fulfil the election promises.
Addressing the media at the Shamshabad Police Station, the former Minister accused the government of ‘murdering democracy’ in the State. “If you (BRS members) raise people’s pressing issues, you are suspended from the Assembly,” he said, criticising the government for imposing restrictions on BRS leaders who attempted to visit protesting farmers to express solidarity. He also accused the government of turning the State into a police state, stating that such actions would not augur well for democracy.
Earlier, Mr. Harish Rao, along with senior party leaders including former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy, was detained at TSPA Junction in Narsingi while they were on their way to Parigi.
Though BRS cadres tried to prevent the police from detaining Mr. Harish Rao causing tension for sometime, the police shifted the leaders to the Shamshabad police station. Meanwhile, several other BRS leaders from the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district were also placed under house arrest.
On the other hand, the police have also reportedly detained protesting farmers late on Monday night and kept them at the Parigi Police Station.
