The Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested Hamood Ahmad Siddiqui in connection with three fraud cases registered in Indore district’s Mhow, Indore (Rural) Superintendent of Police Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia said on Monday (November 17, 2025). Mr. Hamood is the younger brother of Javed Ahmad Siddiqui, chancellor of the Faridabad-based Al Falah University, which has been under the scanner in the recent case of the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi.

A four-member team of the Indore police apprehended Mr. Hamood, 50, from the Gachibowli area of Hyderabad in Telangana in three cases of fraud worth ₹40 lakh, registered at Mhow police station in 2000. Originally from Mhow, Mr. Hamood had been living in Hyderabad for more than 20 years.
Speaking to reporters, Indore (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia said that, apart from the three fraud cases, Mr. Hamood had also been booked on charges of rioting and attempt to murder in 1988.
“We have a drive going on here to nab the absconding accused in old cases, especially those with a reward on them. Mr. Hamood has been held from Hyderabad as part of the campaign,” Ms. Dolkar Bhutia said, adding that a reward of ₹10,000 on information for his arrest was announced in 2019.

The SP said that Mr. Hamood used to run Al Fahad Fin Com Limited, a financial company, in Mhow in the mid-1990s.
“He was the managing director of the company while his wife, he, and another person were the board members of the company. They used to take money from people, promising a return of 20%. They ran the company for two years. After that, he left from Mhow with his family. They are accused of scamming people, and as per the complaints, the amount goes upto ₹40 lakh. It could be more,” Ms. Dolkar Bhutia said.

“Javed Siddiqui is his elder brother. He is not an accused in these fraud cases,” she said.
Mr. Hamood currently runs a private investment firm named Richwell Fin Corp in Hyderabad, and has not been in contact with his family or relatives in Mhow, the officer said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have registered two cases against the Al Falah University for cheating and forgery over alleged false accreditation claims made by the institution after the University Grants Commission, and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council flagged “major irregularities” during their review of its functioning. The Delhi Police have also issued two summons to Mr. Javed.
The university has been under investigation since several doctors who worked or studied there were arrested in connection with the explosion at the national Capital.
The Association of Indian Universities has also suspended Al-Falah University’s membership, saying it “does not appear to be in good standing”, while the Union government has ordered a forensic audit of all the records of the university.
