The infrastructure blueprint and administrative framework for the first phase of the proposed PM MITRA Textile Park near Kalaburagi, in Karnataka, have been finalised. Groundwork for the project will commence shortly, according to Home, Information Technology, Biotechnology and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge.
Mr. Kharge reviewed the progress of the project at a meeting with senior officials at Vikas Soudha in Bengaluru on June 11. The proposed textile park is being developed over 1,000 acres in the first phase, and is expected to emerge as a major industrial hub for the Kalyana Karnataka region.
Addressing officials, the Minister said the project would be developed with world-class infrastructure under a ‘plug-and-play’ model, enabling investors to commence production with minimal delay.
He said the first phase of work would focus on creating core infrastructure, including civil and land development, construction of internal roads, and a modern RCC drainage network for efficient stormwater management.
The park will be equipped with underground high-tension and low-tension power distribution lines, and energy-efficient solar street lighting, he said.
Mr. Kharge said a comprehensive water management system would be established, including a five-lakh-litre Ground Level Service Reservoir (GLSR) for potable water supply, and a 10-lakh-litre Elevated Level Service Reservoir (ELSR) for treated water.
To ensure environmental sustainability, the project will incorporate a state-of-the-art Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) with a capacity of 2.5 million litres per day (MLD), supported by a dedicated pipeline network. The treatment facility will operate on Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology to minimise environmental impact.
The Minister directed officials to maintain the highest quality standards during project execution, and ensure timely implementation of all infrastructure work.
Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, Dr. Selvakumar S.; Textiles Department Secretary Rohini Sindhuri; Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) Chief Executive Officer Govind Reddy; and Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Ikram Shariff, who participated through video conference, were among those present at the meeting.
