The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh won a majority of zilla parishad and gram panchayat constituencies, according to the final results declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday (December 21, 2025) evening.

Counting of votes for the panchayat and municipal bodies polls was held on Saturday (December 20, 2025). However, counting of votes for the panchayat elections continued till late at night, for which it was officially confirmed on Sunday (December 21, 2025), SEC secretary Taru Talo said.

According to a statement from the SEC, in the zilla parishad segment, the BJP won 170 out of 245 zila parishad member (ZPM) seats, including 59 seats uncontested, establishing its clear dominance at the district level.

The Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) emerged as the second-largest force with 28 seats, while the Congress secured seven seats in the zila parishad constituencies.

The National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats, including one uncontested, and 23 constituencies were won by independent and other candidates.

A similar trend was reflected in the gram panchayat elections, where the BJP won 6,085 out of 8,208 seats, including a significant 5,211 uncontested victories, underscoring the party’s strong grassroots presence.

PPA candidates won 648 seats, including 386 uncontested, while independents secured 627 seats, of which 280 were uncontested.

The Congress won 216 seats, including 111 uncontested; NCP bagged 396 seats with 159 uncontested, and the NPP won 160 seats, including 81 uncontested.

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) accounted for 27 seats, including 16 uncontested, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one seat.

The SEC secretary stated that results in 47 gram panchayat seats were decided through a draw of lots after candidates secured an equal number of votes, while 45 seats remain vacant due to reasons such as no nominations, rejection of candidature or countermanding of elections.

The BJP won 14 of the 20 wards in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections.

In the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) elections, PPA candidates won five wards, BJP two and an independent one.

The Opposition Congress failed to open its account in both the Itanagar and Pasighat civic bodies.
