The BJP has declared its full support to the bandh call given by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of BC organisations seeking 42% quota on October 18. Party president N. Ramchander Rao declared to the media after meeting with Rajya Sabha MP R. Krishnaiah that the party’s leader and cadre will be participating wholeheartedly in the programme as it is committed to the cause.

“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi hails from a BC and there are 27 BC Ministers in the central Cabinet. The Centre has given constitutional status to the National BC Commission. How many BC Ministers are there in Telangana Congress government here? It is not fair to blame the BJP for something which it had failed to achieve on the quota front,” he questioned.

Mr. Rao claimed that the Centre had announced caste count will be taken up during the census operations. “It will be an authentic one and the first to be conducted after Independence. The last caste count was conducted during the British rule. The Congress governments had failed to take it up when in power. The BJP leaders had also impleaded into the BC quota case when it was being heard in the High Court,” he pointed out.

Mr. Krishnaiah thanked Mr. Rao for the party’s support and said the BCs are upset over the HC verdict.
