BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran criticised the TVK-led government on Sunday (June 21, 2026) over the reported distribution of biscuits instead of nutritious food to students under the Breakfast Scheme in a school in the Thoothukudi district.

He referred to reports stating that biscuit packets, instead of nutritious food, were distributed to about 40 students at a primary school in Vilathikulam, Thoothukudi district.

“The government under [Chief Minister] Mr. Joseph Vijay could not even properly implement this welfare programme which was brought about with the good intention that students from the poor and downtrodden sections should study well without hunger,” he criticised.

Rejecting that the shortage in food was due to the increase in the number of students, Mr. Nagenthran said the government should have planned depending on the number of students.
