The Konanakunte police tracked down and arrested a 22-year-old mechanic who allegedly crushed a 40-year-old rag picker to death with a stone for ₹10 in Yelachenahalli on Wednesday.

According to the police, a rag picker, was lying dead outside a shop with his head crushed with a stone. The police registered a case of murder and shifted the body for post-mortem and gathered CCTV camera footage from in and around the area.

Based on the technical details, the police arrested the accused, Sahil Pasha from Ilyas Nagar, within four hours of the crime. Probe revealed that Sahil was irregular to work and spent most of his time outside home. He would pick up fights with the people living on the street, said the police .

The accused allegedly confessed that he confronted the deceased who was sleeping outside the closed shop and demanded money, but the deceased refused to pay.

Sahil left the scene in a huff only to return later and saw the deceased sleeping. In a fit of rage, he allegedly picked up a stone and smashed it on his head, killing him on the spot .

The police have subjected the accused to medical examination to ascertain whether he was under the influence of any intoxication.
