Telangana life sciences ecosystem reached an estimated valuation of $145 billion, fuelled by over ₹84,000 crore in investments over the past two years. The milestone was highlighted during the seventh board meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF), chaired by Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The State contributes to nearly 40% of India’s pharmaceutical production and accounts for one-third of global vaccine output, earning it the reputation of being the Vaccine Capital of the World.

The life sciences sector has expanded nearly threefold since 2016, establishing Hyderabad as one of the world’s premier life sciences clusters across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, and health tech innovation. The city now hosts technology and innovation centres from nine of the world’s top ten life sciences companies — the only region outside the United States with this distinction, as per a press note issued on Thursday.

“A focused ecosystem-building effort, anchored in strong institutional leadership and policy continuity has helped attract investments, forging global partnerships, and accelerating innovation and growth. We are at the cusp of the next phase of growth enabled by the initiatives in the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy,” said the Minister.

Mr. Sridhar Babu suggested that the investment MoUs executed for Green Pharma City, cumulatively amounting to about ₹20,000 crore, should be grounded at the earliest.

The Board unanimously commended CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan for his leadership in shaping and scaling the ecosystem. Recognising his contributions, the government has appointed him as Advisor (Lifesciences), and that he will continue to serve on the Board of the Telangana Lifesciences Foundation.

The TLSF’s new CEO, Sarvesh Singh, was introduced on the occasion. He outlined the 2026-27 priorities.
