A cheating case has been registered against four people, including Biju Radhakrishnan, a convict in the infamous solar scam. The fresh case was registered by the Kadavanthra police on January 31 following a direction from the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate-VIII court.

According to the FIR, the accused allegedly cheated the complainant, a 28-year-old man from Nilambur, of ₹29 lakh on the promise of arranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for his charitable trust.

The other accused in the case are Nisha Peter, Berlin and Venugopal, all identified as stakeholders of Kakkanad-based NGO Help Foundation.

Mr. Radhakrishnan allegedly befriended the complainant in 2021 by claiming that he was a senior lawyer practising in the Supreme Court, and Ms. Peter was his wife and also a law practitioner.

The accused allegedly persuaded the complainant to start the charitable trust, promising to raise CSR funds. The complainant alleged that the accused took the amount from him as CSR fund processing charges, cost to purchase an ambulance and documentation expenses.

When he later demanded the return of the money, the accused allegedly threatened to implicate him in a rape case, the FIR said. The complainant approached the court after the police reportedly refused to file a case initially, citing that transaction details were not available.
