National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Narendra Prasad Singh won the Tirhut teachers constituency seat by defeating independent candidate Bhushan Jha in Bihar Legislative Council polls.

Mr. Singh secured 2,945 votes, whereas Mr. Jha received 2,351 votes. Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Sanjay Singh finished third with 1,967 votes. Polling for eight MLC seats in Bihar was held on October 23, 2026.

Counting is underway for seven remaining seats comprising four graduate constituencies (Kosi, Tirhut, Patna Darbhanga ) and three teachers’ constituency (Saran, Patna, Darbhanga).

As per initial reports from the counting centre, Janata Dal (United) candidate Neeraj Kumar is trailing in the Patna graduate constituency, which remained a hot seat due to the boycott by Mokama MLA Anant Singh. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Dilip Patel is leading, whereas Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) candidate Anuj Singh for whom Anant Singh campaigned is in third position.

However, there is good news for JSP candidate Surendra Prasad Rai, who is leading in Darbhanga teachers’ constituency and sitting Congress MLC Madan Mohan Jha is trailing.

Similarly, Independent candidate Rahul Raj is leading in the Saran teacher constituency and N.K. Yadav of the BJP is leading in the Kosi graduate seat, followed by JSP candidate Rajnish Ranjan and Nitish Kumar of RJD in second and third position respectively.

In Patna teachers’ consistency, there was a tough contest between BJP candidate Nawal Kishore Yadav and RJD candidate Sajeev Kumar. In the Darbhanga graduate seat, RJD’s candidate Anil Jha is leading against BJP’s candidate Sarvesh Kumar.

Anant Singh who was expelled from the JD(U) for six years for anti-party activities, remained stuck to his claimed that Neeraj Kumar will face defeat. The final results are likely to be announced by Wednesday (October 28, 2026) morning as voting was done through ballot papers.
