Tele Manas, the Central government’s 24×7 mental health helpline, has been formally integrated with the city’s emergency response system, Namma 112, to allow emergency calls involving mental health crises to be directly routed to trained mental health professionals.

The integration programme was held on Wednesday in collaboration with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS – Namma 112) and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).

With the integration, calls involving mental health distress received by Namma 112 will be transferred in real time to TeleManas counsellors for specialised intervention. At the same time, cases identified by Tele Manas as psychiatric emergencies, such as imminent suicide risk, will be escalated to Namma 112 for on-ground support, including ambulance or police assistance.

Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring faster, more appropriate responses to mental health emergencies, reducing delays and avoiding criminalisation or mismanagement of people in distress. The collaboration is intended to bring a more humane and professional approach to crisis situations by combining emergency response infrastructure with mental health expertise.

Tele Manas services can be accessed by the public through toll-free helpline number 14416, its official website, and email support, with additional outreach through a mobile application.
