The Bengaluru police, as part of its Social Media Monitoring Cells (SMMCs) initiative, registered a total of 37 cases since the beginning of this year, arrested 18 persons, and took down 41 social media accounts along with 19 objectionable posts shared by the accused from various social media platforms.
Authorities from all police stations across the city are actively monitoring social media platforms for posts that spread communal hatred, false news, and defamatory or provocative content that could disturb public harmony.
During this course of action, several provocative posts were identified, and cases have been registered accordingly. Legal action has also been taken against those involved.
The general public has been requested not to endorse, support, or share posts that may disrupt social harmony. Before commenting on or forwarding any information on social media, people should verify the authenticity and truthfulness of such content, the police advised.
The police have warned of strict legal action against those found violating the law.
