A rowdy-sheeter accused in the recent murder of a man in JP Nagar was shot in the leg by the police after he allegedly attacked officers during a spot mahazar, South Division DCP, K. Vamshikrishna said on Wednesday.

According to the DCP, the murder took place on June 27 under the jurisdiction of the JP Nagar Police Station, when four men allegedly carried out a deadly assault on a man identified as Raju, killing him.

The police formed eight special teams to investigate the case and arrested all four accused within two days of the incident.

The DCP said the accused were taken to the crime scene near NICE Road for a spot mahazar. After the procedure was completed, one of the accused allegedly turned violent and attacked the police personnel, which included a woman officer, with stones.

PSI Samanvaya first fired a warning shot into the air in self-defence, but the accused allegedly continued the attack. The police then opened fire, hitting the accused in the leg before overpowering and arresting him.

The injured accused is a rowdy-sheeter from Konanakunte with a criminal history of more than 10 cases, the police said.

The DCP also alleged that on the day of the murder, the accused had committed a chain-snatching in KR Puram using pepper spray.

Police said two of the other three accused also have multiple criminal cases against them.

A1 in the murder case of JP Nagar was shot by PSI Savinaya of JP Nagar Police Station in self-defence when he was pelting stones at them. The accused has 14 cases in total including two murders and five attempts to murder cases.

There was also a chain-snatching incident reported in KR Puram on June 27, the same night of the murder.

This incident took place in Thalagatpura limits Hemmigepura road near NICE road.
