Three cases of robberies and scuffles were reported in Bengaluru on Friday night and the wee hours of Saturday, raising concerns over the safety of commuters at night. This was despite the Bengaluru City Police’s area domination exercise and extensive night checks during nighttime.

A flower vendor was robbed of ₹30,000 in the bustling Flower Market at Kalasipalya, Bengaluru, in the wee hours of Saturday. The victim, identified as Palani, had kept the cash in his inner clothing when four unidentified men surrounded him at 5.30 a.m., just as he was preparing to begin his business for the day. The robbers allegedly diverted his attention, forcibly snatched the ₹30,000 from his inner pocket, and fled the spot before he could react. A case has been registered at the Kalasipalya police station. Police are analysing CCTV camera footage from the vicinity to identify and track down the culprits.

This is not the first time that vegetable and flower vendors have been targets of robber gangs around Kalasipalya. Earlier, too, several similar cases have been reported.

In another incident, armed youths extorted money from passersby and threatened to attack them for refusing to give money in Yeshwanthpura on Friday night. Panicked residents raised an alarm, following which the accused fled the scene. The police are verifying the CCTV footage to identify the accused.

The city also reported an incident of road rage that turned violent the same night. A private firm employee was assaulted by three bike-borne men on Church Road near Shantinagar in the early hours of Saturday, in what police say appears to be a case of road rage.

The incident occurred between 4.30 a.m. and 5.30 a.m., when the trio, travelling on a motorcycle, allegedly asked the victim to give way. When he refused, an argument broke out. The men reportedly followed him, intercepted his two-wheeler, and confronted him, questioning his response and the way he spoke to them. The verbal spat escalated, and two of the men allegedly assaulted the victim. In the scuffle, the victim’s motorcycle skidded, and he fell, after which the trio fled the spot. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.

The Wilson Garden Police have registered a case and are analysing the CCTV camera footage to identify and trace the accused.
