The Sadashivanagar police are on the lookout for an autorickshaw driver who allegedly sped away with a traffic constable still inside the vehicle after being stopped for causing an accident on a one-way stretch near 10th Cross on Thursday night.

Traffic constable Radhakrishna, who was deployed at the Mehkri Circle junction, noticed the autorickshaw coming the wrong way and crashing into a scooter. He stopped the vehicle and got in, directing the driver to proceed to the police station.

However, instead of complying, the driver allegedly sped towards Hebbal in a rash and negligent manner. Radhakrishna shouted at him to stop, and in the commotion, his walkie-talkie fell from his hand and was damaged. The driver continued driving until Ganganagar, where he eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Meanwhile, ASI Muniraju and Naveen Kumar, who arrived at the spot after being alerted, inspected the vehicle and found a dagger hidden under the driver’s seat. The autorickshaw was brought to the police station, and based on the constable’s complaint, the Sadashivanagar police registered a case under Sections 132, 281, and 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the driver.

Cop threatened by auto driver

In another incident, Police Constable Madesha K.M., deployed at Palace Guttahalli bus stop, was allegedly abused and threatened by an autorickshaw driver after he advised the driver to follow lane discipline and slow down.

The driver, who was reportedly carrying a patient, was speeding in a rash and negligent manner. When Madesha asked him to drive carefully as the passenger appeared frightened, the driver allegedly hurled abuses and threatened him with dire consequences. An FIR has been registered, and police are attempting to trace the accused using the autorickshaw’s registration number.
