The Basava Ratha Yatra, which has begun its State-wide journey under the Basava Samskruti Abhiyan to mark the first anniversary of declaration of the 12th century social reformer Basavanna as cultural icon, will reach Dharwad on Friday.

The Basava Samskruti Abhiyan has been launched by the Lingayat Mathadhipatigala Okkuta. It plans to cover the entire State.

Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Tuesday, seer of Murugha Mutt Sri Mallikarjun Swami said that the Basava Ratha Yatra will enter the district from Belagavi on Friday.

The seer said that the yatra will be welcomed at 10.30 a.m. in front of the University of Agricultural Sciences.

“At 11 a.m., a Vachana Dialogue will be held with students at Mrutyunjaya College. At 3.30 pm, a Ratha Yatra and a procession showcasing Vachana literature will be taken out from Kadapa Maidan to Murugha Mutt,” he said.

This will be followed by a public programme at the mutt at 6 p.m. which will be attended by various seers, including Sanehalli Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swami, Tontada Siddarama Swami and others. Writer S.S. Anupama will deliver a lecture, he said and added that a Kannada play, Jangamadadege, will be staged at 8 p.m.
