Maharashtra gears up for bypolls in two high-profile constituencies — Baramati in Pune, the stronghold of late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Rahuri in Ahilyanagar, on Thursday (April 23, 2026).

Baramati already seems like a one-sided contest, as Congress paved the way for Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar by withdrawing its candidate.

Baramati by-election explained: Power, politics & the Pawar family | Pulse Maharashtra

Baramati heads to a crucial by-election following the death of Ajit Pawar, leaving a major political vacuum. Long seen as a stronghold of the Pawar family, the contest now reflects shifting alliances and internal rivalries. With Sharad Pawar’s faction, BJP, and emerging family contenders in play, this bypoll could reshape Maharashtra’s political landscape.
