Three more persons, including a bank staffer were arrested by K.V. Kuppam police on Tuesday for circulating counterfeit currencies in denominations of ₹100 in the area.

The arrested were identified as G. Velmurugan, 29, a bank staffer in Vellore, R. Ganesan, 23, a farmer in Ranipet, and K. Satish, who runs a saloon in Walajah town. Earlier, other gang members K. Mohanraj, 47, a farmer in K.V. Kuppam village, and his accomplice M. Murugan, 52, a lorry driver were arrested.

Initial inquiry revealed that the lorry driver, Murugan visited a Tasmac outlet in Nakkal village near Gudiyatham town last week. He gave a few counterfeit currencies in denominations of ₹100 to the salesman at the outlet.

The salesman alerted K.V. Kuppam police, who conducted an inquiry with Murugan. He told police that he got it from Mohanraj.

The police recovered counterfeit currencies totalling upto ₹8,700 from them. A case was registered. During the investigation, the arrested persons informed the police about the hideout of other gang members, after which they nabbed the suspects. A probe is under way.
