Emphasising the vital role of body donation in medical education, Dr. Mahantesh Ramannavar, Secretary of Dr. Ramannavar Charitable Trust, Bailhongal, and Head of the Department of Anatomy at KLE B.M. Kankanwadi Ayurveda College, Belagavi, advocated the need to observe World Body Donation Day to raise public awareness.

He was speaking at a body donation and cadaver pledge ceremony held at the Ayurveda Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre run by the Sri Hingulambika Educational Institution on Sedam Road in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, on February 15.

Dr. Ramannavar said that a thorough understanding of human anatomy and physiology is essential to shape competent and compassionate doctors who can serve society effectively. “Body donation plays a crucial role in medical education and in the making of future doctors. Public awareness on this noble cause must be strengthened,” he expressed.

On the occasion, the body of Mahalingamma Yellapuramath of Belagavi was donated to the college through the Dr. Ramannavar Charitable Trust. Her son, Mrityunjaya Yellapuramath, formally handed over the body to the institution in accordance with her wishes.

The college administration and faculty members received the body.

Vijayalaxmi Harnurkar, Principal of the college, assured that the last rites would be performed with due respect after completion of anatomical studies.

Dr. Allamprabhu Gudda, Chairperson of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, lauded the social commitment shown by Mahalingamma and described her gesture as exemplary.
