HYDERABAD

A delegation of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) requested the State Election Commission to notify the election of Chairperson of the Ibrahimpatnam municipality completed on February 17, but not announced by the officials under pressure from the ruling Congress.

Party leaders K.P. Vivekanand, Shambipur Raju, Dasoju Sravan, Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and others were among those who made the representation to the SEC here on Saturday. Speaking to newspersons later, Mr. Kishan Reddy and Mr. Sravan said the Congress had resorted to irregularities in the Ibrahimpatnam municipal election with the help of the official machinery.

Stating that BRS had won 14 wards against 8 by the Congress, they said the ruling party had first tried to prevent the election to chairperson’s post and when it did not happen they got the issuance of certificate to the newly-elected chairperson in the name of the court stay. There was no stay now but the officials were not issuing the certificate under pressure from the ruling party.

The ruling party had also not allowed the process to elect vice-chairperson though the BRS had complete majority. The objections of the Congress were ridiculous as they objected even to the absence of BRS councillor Yadagiri on February 16. They alleged that the ruling party was resorting to threatening, abduction and foisting cases.
