Public campaigning for the April 9 Kerala, Puducherry and Assam Assembly polls will end on Tuesday (April 7, 2026). In Kerala, Congress, the BJP, and the ruling LDF have intensified attacks on each other, while the LDF released a progress report claiming it has fulfilled 97 per cent of its 2021 promises.

In Puducherry, meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin on Monday (April 6, 2026) alleged that the Centre has shown no interest in granting full Statehood to Puducherry, despite the Union Territory’s Legislative Assembly passing resolutions 14 times urging such a move.

In Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (April 6, 2026) appealed to the voters to keep Congress away from power for continued peace and development. Single-phase polling will be held for 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Keralam and 30 seats in Puducherry.

Ahead of the coming Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday (April 6, 2026) said that no political party, candidate, organisation, or individual should publish any political advertisement in newspapers on the day of polling or a day prior to voting unless the content has been pre-certified by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the State or district level.
