Shivamogga police have arrested three people wanted in the assault case that was reported in R.M.L. Nagar. Shivamogga BJP MLA S.N. Channabasappa called it a communal attack and blamed the police for delaying booking the case.
Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar told the media that three people accused of assaulting Harish were arrested on Wednesday, November 19. The accused have been identified as Charan, a resident of Buddha Nagar, Addu alias Amran of Buddha Nagar, and Niranjan, a resident of Seegehatti in the city. The three allegedly assaulted Harish over a minor issue on the night of November 16.
Mr. Channabasappa visited the victim’s house on November 16 and alleged that people belonging to a particular community attacked the youth and alleged that law and order had collapsed in the city. The police registered a case only after his intervention. Later, on November 19, the MLA met Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara and senior police officials in Bengaluru and complained to them against the Shivamogga district police officers.
Meanwhile, K.E. Kanthesh of Rashtrabhaktara Balaga also met Mr. Kumar and urged him to arrest the accused. Further, he told the media that his forum would stage a protest if the accused were not arrested.
Advocate and convener of the forum for peace in Shivamogga K.P. Sripal has appreciated the police who arrested the accused and foiled the BJP leaders’ efforts to give a communal angle to the incident.
The police should take legal action against those who give communal colours to crime incidents for their political gains, he demanded.
