Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday (October 19, 2025), celebrated Deepavali with troops deployed in high-altitude areas of the Central Sector, extending festive greetings to all ranks and their families.

During his visit to forward posts in Pithoragarh and adjoining areas, he lauded the soldiers’ indomitable spirit and commitment to duty under extreme climatic and challenging terrain conditions.

According to the Indian Army, General Dwivedi interacted with personnel stationed in remote locations, commending their resilience, courage, and steadfast devotion to service.

He reaffirmed the Indian Army’s full preparedness to counter evolving security challenges, invoking the core ethos of “Service Before Self.” The Army Chief also met veterans and local communities, acknowledging their invaluable contributions and strong bond with the armed forces.

The Army further informed that reviewing the operational posture of formations deployed along the Central Sector, the COAS was briefed on ongoing capability enhancements, including advanced surveillance systems, specialist mobility platforms, integration of next-generation technologies, and optimisation of reconnaissance assets.

He appreciated the professionalism, discipline, and tactical agility of troops, and their innovative employment of new equipment in the high mountains.

Emphasising the strategic importance of the Kumaon region – serving as a crucial gateway to the borders with Nepal and China – General Dwivedi lauded the local population’s patriotism and resilience.

He invoked the glorious legacy of the Kumaon Regiment and reviewed initiatives under Operation Sadbhavna and the Vibrant Village Programme, such as tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani, road and energy infrastructure, medical outreach, and agricultural support through polyhouses.

He underscored that the Indian Army in Kumaon exemplifies “strength with compassion,” defending the nation’s frontiers while empowering border communities, Army added.

Concluding his visit, General Dwivedi reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering resolve to maintain operational excellence, foster civil-military harmony, and uphold the highest traditions of duty, honour, and service to the nation.
