Leaders of the AP Public Transport Department (APPTD- APSRTC) Employees’ Unions have expressed happiness over the release of G.O. No. 593 on Thursday stating that the government accorded administrative approval and released funds to the tune of ₹400 crore towards reimbursement of the expenditure incurred on implementation of the Stree Shakti free travel scheme.

In a statement, union State president P. Damodar Rao and general secretary G.V. Narasayya said the amount sanctioned would cover the reimbursement dues from August 15 to October, and appealed to the government to ensure timely payment of funds to the corporation in the future also to enable the APSRTC authorities to run the scheme successfully.

For continued success of the scheme, they reiterated their plea to purchase at least 3,000 additional buses and recruit 10,000 employees across various categories to fill the existing vacant posts in the department.

Leaders of the APPTD National Mazdoor Union also expressed gratitude to the government for release of funds. Its State president P.V. Ramana Reddy and general secretary Y. Srinivasa Rao said timely release of the reimbursement amount would help the authorities to implement the free travel scheme effectively, which in turn would enhance government’s reputation among people.
