Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has achieved a milestone by successfully completing 2,000 robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries, marking an important advancement in technology-driven orthopaedic care.

The milestone was achieved at Apollo’s main hospital at Greams Road, Chennai, under the leadership of Vijay Kishore Kondreddy, Clinical Lead and Head, Department of Orthopaedics and Robotic Joint Replacement and Arthroscopic Surgeon.

Addressing a media conference here on Thursday (August 13, 2026), Mr. Kondreddy said the technique was increasingly being used in knee and hip replacement surgeries to help achieve accurate implant positioning and personalised surgical planning.

Robotic-assisted joint replacement combines the expertise of an experienced orthopaedic surgeon with advanced technology to enable detailed pre-operative planning and precise execution of the procedure.

“Completing 2,000 robotic joint replacement surgeries is a proud moment for our entire team. This achievement reflects our commitment to continuously adopting advanced technology while keeping patient safety, precision and clinical outcomes at the centre of our practice,” he said.

He however added that robotic technology was never a replacement for surgical expertise, but a powerful tool that would complement the surgeon’s experience and enable greater precision and personalised planning.
