T. Dilip Kumar, chairman, Indian Nursing Council, on Friday, highlighted the urgent need to use emerging technological tools in medical education. “There is an urgent need to use emerging technological tools like simulation extensively in medical and para-medical education and in the training of healthcare workers,’’ Mr. Kumar, chairman, Indian Nursing Council, said in Bagalkot. He was speaking after inaugurating the National Reference Simulation Centre and the National Assessment and Certification Centre in BVV Sangha’s Sajjalasree Nursing College.
“The dream of using technology in nursing education was long-standing. Now, with the establishment of the simulation centre in Bagalkot, that dream is coming true, he said. He urged teachers to ensure optimal usage of the technology and see that quality education is imparted.
“We should realise that the service of nursing staff is extremely important in the healthcare industry. Patient safety is the first priority during treatment. Well trained nursing staff is needed in hospitals,” he said.
Veeranna Charantimath, chairman, BVVS, said that the National Assessment and Certification Centre was the first in the country, and the National Reference Simulation Centre was the second in the country. He said that the centre would open its doors to nursing staff from across the country.
Dr. Charantimath recalled the selfless service of nursing staff during COVID. He expressed gratitude to the representatives of the Indian Nursing Council, JPAIGO, and Laerdal Medical Institute for providing the necessary guidance for the establishment of the simulation centre.
Bhagwan B.C, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, said India was at the forefront of nursing education. “Research is progressing fast, and there is a need for simulation centres for training to train staff and students. BVVS has taken the pioneering step in this direction,” he said. He said the Bagalkot simulation centre would advance the cause of para-medical education in Karnataka.
3-day international conference
A three-day international conference on simulation training was inaugurated. Resource persons from England, Australia, and Singapore will deliver special lectures and conduct training during the conference. A total of 1,000 nursing staff from Karnataka and various States have come for the training.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the BVV Association, the Indian Nursing Council, JPAIGO, and Laerdal Medical for research and training in nursing science.
Mahesh Athani, secretary of BVVS, and Ashok M. Sajjan (Bevoor), chairman, governing council, of BVVS health sciences institute were present.
Dilip Natekar, principal, welcomed the gathering. Sanjeev Singh, Managing Director of Laerdal Medical, and Kamlesh Lalachandani, Deputy Director of JPAIGO, gave introductory speeches on the importance of the simulation centre. Nursing experts who arrived from abroad gave lectures on the need for the simulation centre.
