Close on the heels of a minor girl being delivered of a baby, another case of minor girl getting pregnant because of alleged sexual exploitation has come to light in Dharwad district.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the minor girl, who is pregnant now, has reportedly given birth to a baby few months ago and the police are investigating whether the baby was sold while the parents have claimed that they had given the baby to a relative.

According to the complaint, the 15-year-old girl from a village was allegedly sexually exploited by a youth in 2025 as a result of which she became pregnant and delivered a baby three months ago in a private nursing home in Hubballi. The incident came to light after the girl became pregnant again and it is alleged that the accused youth again allegedly sexually exploited her.

District Child Protection Officer Prakash Kodliwad told presspersons that the case came to light after the staff of the child protection unit went to the minor girl’s house to collect information on the incident. “After our staff came to know about another minor girl delivering a baby, they inquired into it and after the minor girl was counselled, she revealed what had happened. Based on the information, our staff has filed a complaint with Old Hubballi Police Station against the accused youth, the parents who had hidden the issue and the doctor who delivered the baby. The minor girls in both the cases are cousins”, he said.

Meanwhile Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said that they were investigating whether the baby was sold. However it was a matter of concern that minor girls were getting pregnant and extensive awareness should be created on the issue, he said.

Last week the Town Police in Hubballi registered a case against a youth, parents of minor girl and doctors who had carried out the delivery, after medical complication brought the minor girl who had delivered a baby to KMCRI Hospital and subsequently the police were alerted.
