Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday (November 6, 2025) expressed serious concern over his estranged son Anbumani “violating all norms of political decency.” He alleged that Mr. Anbumani was instigating violence against party functionaries “in collusion with his wife Sowmiya Anbumani.”

Speaking to reporters at his Thailapuram residence near Tindivanam, Mr. Ramadoss said that it was he who started the PMK and its parent organisation, the Vanniyar Sangam.

“I had committed a few mistakes in my political career and this included making Anbumani a Central Minister and the president of the PMK. While the party is being run in a peaceful manner now, an impression of a rift is being created amongst the public and other party cadre,” he said.

“Barring a few, most members of the other camp [Mr. Anbumani’s] were groomed by me. People who called me ‘Ayya’ have, for some reason, joined the other camp,” he further said.

Mr. Ramadoss said that he was pained to see that he and honorary president G.K. Mani were the target of attacks on social media, “thanks to the encouragement given by the other group.”

“I had created a decent culture in the party all these years, and party workers were told to react with utmost restraint and a civilised approach if any party or leader criticised the PMK. But the recent incident of attack on Salem West MLA R. Arul and his supporters shows that all the claims of Mr. Anbumani of decent and development politics were untrue. If any of PMK’s party functionaries face any hardship, Mr. Anbumani and his wife will be solely responsible,” Mr. Ramadoss said.

The PMK founder reiterated his appeal to his estranged son to start his own political party and said that he would even suggest a name for the new party. A minimum of 21 persons would be sufficient to start a new party. He said that he had made it very clear to Mr. Anbumani to refrain from using the party’s name and flag.

Mr. Ramadoss also appealed to the party cadre to refrain from expressing sharp reactions. “Our intention is to ensure that Tamil Nadu remained a peaceful State as championed by my late friend and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi,” he said.
