Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said Amaravati was a sentiment for the people while Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy did not like to even utter the word (Amaravati) owing to his hatred for it. Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) was left without a capital at the time of bifurcation and it had a devastating impact on the growth of the State.

“When the A.P. Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was being passed in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy came up with a proposal to develop the area between Guntur, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam as the capital just to create confusion with mala fide intentions,” he alleged.

Addressing NDA leaders through a teleconference on Thursday (April 2, 2026), Mr. Naidu said Jagan Mohan Reddy had changed the name of SRM University-Amaravati as ‘SRM’ as he was loathsome to the very idea of having the capital in Amaravati. Through his comments, the former CM indicated that his attitude towards Amaravati would never change in the future.

He said the feeling that “Amaravati is our capital” should resonate with everyone, and thanked the Central government for supporting Andhra Pradesh in passing the Bill.

The approval for A.P. Reorganization Bill, 2026 in the Rajya Sabha would complete the process of giving legal sanctity to Amaravati.

The State government would establish a High Court Bench in Kurnool at the earliest, Mr. Naidu said, adding that the NDA government was moving forward with the goal of developing all regions.

Jana Sena Party political affairs committee chairman and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav and other leaders participated.
