Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications and Guntur MP Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said the Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Pradesh) Government was trying to get a Bill, which would give legal sanctity to Amaravati as the permanent Capital of the State, passed in Parliament.

Speaking to media persons at a meeting organised by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) on issues being faced by farmers, on Saturday (November 22, 2025), Mr. Chandra Sekhar said the proposal got legal clearance and the file was under consideration of the Home Ministry.

He was referring to the need to recognise Amaravati as the permanent capital, citing the complications that hampered development of the green field city in 2019-24.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had discussed the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah and it remained to be seen whether the Bill would get Parliamentary assent in the upcoming sessions,” he mentioned.

It may be recalled that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Government intended to have three capitals instead of a single one in the name of decentralisation and had even brought in the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020.

However, it was declared by the High Court as illegal and this verdict was challenged by the then government in the Supreme Court.

The present Telugu Desam Party-led government had filed an affidavit in the apex court late last year that it had firmly concluded Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh and was committed to develop it in three years.
