ALC students told to aim high to achieve goals

The Andhra Loyola College (ALC) buzzed with activity as series of events marked the 72nd foundation day celebrations of the college, on Tuesday.

The students took out a procession in ethnic attires representing the culture of 22 States across the country. Meanwhile, 40 food stalls were set up on the football ground to serve the visitors, making it a food lovers’ paradise.

Addressing the students, former Director of All India Radio, Vijayawada, G. Kondala Rao, stressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage. He advised students not to use mobile phone while driving, to cultivate the habit of reading books, take pride in their mother tongue, and aim high in life and work with sincerity to achieve goals.

ALC principal Melchior thanked the founders of the college for their vision and noted that the institution had produced many leaders in various fields.

Correspondent Angelo said the college was built by well-wishers from the region, many of whom were alumni of other Jesuit institutions in India.

Second-year Chemistry student G. Kiran Kumar bagged the ‘Mr. Ethnic’ title, while first-year English student Tanishqa Arora was declared ‘Ms. Ethnic’. In the ‘Tug-of-War’ (degree level), B. Com students won the boys’ category, while boys from BBA emerged runners-up. In the girls’ category, BBA students emerged champions while B. Sc Computer Science batch came second.

At the Intermediate level in Tug-of-War, students of MEC group emerged winners among the boys, while their counterparts from BiPC were the runners-up and. In the girls’ section, the BiPC group claimed the first place and students of MPC bagged the runners-up prize.

There were other exciting competitions such as stall decoration and food tasting contest. The college vice-principals Kiran and Suresh and deans Subha and Francis Xavier, coordinated the event along with staff and student council members. More than 5,000 staff and students of ALC took part in the event.
