Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has started shooting for Samuk, taking on a genre that marks a new territory for the actor. The film is being mounted as a pan-India theatrical project, with survival, action and alien mythology at its core. Directed by Kanishk Varma, the film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and co-produced by Aashin A Shah.
The project has reportedly been in development for more than two years, with the makers working on a world that combines military realism, survival horror and science-fiction elements.

For Shah, Samuk marks another collaboration with Akshay Kumar after more than a decade. The producer has worked across genres including thrillers, family dramas, romance, comedy and action. With Samuk, the focus shifts towards an alien survival story that requires extensive creature and action work.
Academy Award-nominated creature designer Alec Gillis joins Samuk
One of the major international names associated with Samuk is creature-effects designer Alec Gillis. The Academy Award-nominated technician, known for his work on the Alien and Predator franchises as well as Alien: Romulus, has designed the film’s central alien.
The decision to use a practical creature design is expected to give the alien a distinct physical presence within the film’s world.
International action team boards the film
Samuk has also brought in technicians from outside India to develop its action sequences. British action director Luke Tumber is designing and directing the film’s action, with the makers aiming for a physically demanding style suited to its survival-thriller setting.
The combination of an international creature-effects team and action specialists is central to the film’s larger production plan.
