In a first, the Taliban administration of Afghanistan marked the 5th anniversary of ‘Victory Day’ at the Afghanistan Embassy, Delhi on Monday (August 17, 2026).

Dr. Ikramuddin Kamil, Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai and CDA Afghan Embassy Mufti Noor Ahmed Noor were present at the event, along with M. Anand Prakash, the Joint Secretary for the Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran (PAI) Division in the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Taliban marked five years in power on Saturday (August 15, 2026), seeking to portray their government as in ‌control even as aid and rights groups warned of escalating crises.

The Taliban seized power on August 15, 2021, as the U.S. and other NATO troops withdrew following a costly two-decade war.

International organisations and the U.N. say the Taliban have struggled ‌to address the natural and humanitarian crises Afghanistan has faced over the past five years, in part because Afghan women are under severe restrictions.
