Police have registered a case against noted Malayalam film actor and Kannur Special Branch Sub-Inspector P. Sivadasan Kannur for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a road accident.
The incident occurred late on Friday night at Chavassery, where the car driven by Sivadasan hit a culvert, lost control and rammed into another vehicle parked along the roadside. Following the accident, the Mattannur police reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.
Police said tests confirmed that Sivadasan was under the influence of alcohol at the time of driving. Cases have been registered for rash and drunken driving.
Sivadasan, who is currently in service with the Special branch was returning home when the accident occurred. He had taken leave from duty to pursue film assignments.
A familiar face in Malayam cinema, Sivadasan has acted in several acclaimed films, including Android Kunjappan and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, both of which had won State film awards.
