The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has urged the Union government to constitute a high-level committee to enhance transparency and undertake institutional reforms in competitive examinations, including NEET-UG.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, ABVP State secretary Y. Venkata Gopi said students should not become instruments of narrow political interests or anti-national forces. He said the organisation strongly condemned the unrest and clashes that occurred during the protest at Jantar Mantar over NEET-UG and other education-related issues.
Expressing concern over the confrontations between some protesters, who identified themselves as students, and security personnel, Mr. Gopi said such incidents had disturbed public order in Delhi. He alleged that certain politically motivated individuals and anti-social elements had attempted to exploit the genuine concerns of students and turn the protest into a platform for violence.
Mr. Gopi expressed sympathy for the students and security personnel injured in the clashes and hoped such incidents would not recur.
He said the ABVP had, from the outset, demanded action against irregularities in competitive examinations, including a re-conduct of NEET-UG wherever warranted. The organisation had also consistently sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged examination irregularities to safeguard the credibility and transparency of the examination system. It had also staged protests in front of the National Testing Agency (NTA) headquarters, demanding strict action against those responsible.
