Sri Sathya Sai district police have arrested two persons for their alleged links with terror operatives. The two were found to be members of WhatsApp groups run by Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, the police said.
One of the accused hails from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Maharashtra.
The police earlier arrested a 40-year-old man, Kotwal Noor Mohammed, from Dharmavaram for having links with JeM. Mohammed was a member in the WhatsApp groups operated by the JeM and was participating in Jihadi and radical activities in India.
Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar told mediapersons on Friday that further investigation following the arrest of Mohammed, and based on intelligence information, they have arrested the two persons.
The SP said the A.P. Police along with the Uttar Pradesh Police conducted a search operation in Amroha and arrested Sajad Hussain on October 13 and recovered electronic gadgets and Jihadi material from him. Subsequently, a single barrel rifle was also seized from his residence at Jamparva. The firearm belonged to a relative of the accused and had been used for Jihadi activities. Hussain was studying the Aleem course in a madrasa.
On the same day, with the help of the Maharashtra ATS, the A.P. Police arrested Toufeeq Alam Shaik from Nashik and seized electronic gadgets and Jihadi material from him.
The two accused have been brought to Dharmavaram and would be produced before the court, the SP said.
“Both of them are found to be active members of WhatsApp groups and channels of JeM. They were planning to radicalise youth and also take military training in Pakistan to wage a war against India,” he said.
The duo also had links with the Popular Front of India (PFI), a banned organisation in India, and some other banned terrorist organisations, he said. “The accused were indulging in terror operations under the guise of social service. They were also playing a key role in encouraging Muslim youth to take the path of terrorism,” Mr Satish Kumar said.
Any individual having links with terror groups or ISI handlers or Jihadi organisations and are part of their social media groups will be treated as participants in anti-national activity and action will be taken against them under UAPA and other relevant Acts, he said.
The police have kept a strict surveillance on Pakistan-based social media groups, the SP said and cautioned Muslim youth to keep away from inciteful social media groups and posts.
The SP appealed to people to inform the police about any anti-national posts that attempt to radicalise youth.
