Preparations are underway in Chhattisgarh as around 208 Maoists, including senior leaders, are set to surrender their arms and return to the mainstream on Friday (October 17, 2025) in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

The Maoists will be surrendering with 153 weapons, which include 19 AK-47 rifles, 17 SLR rifles, 23 INSAS rifles, 1 INSAS LMG, 36 .303 rifles, 4 carbines, 11 BGL launchers, 41 12 bore/single shot and 1 pistol.

The 208 cadres who are surrendering include 110 female Maoists and 98 males. The surrendering Maoists are 1 CCM, 4 DKSZC, 1 Regional Committee member, 21 DVCM, 61 ACM level, 98 cadre members and 22 PLGA/RPC/others.

Earlier on Thursday (October 16, 2025), Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that 258 Maoists had surrendered in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra over the past two days.

Describing the development as a “landmark day” in the country’s battle against Maoism, Mr. Shah said the menace is now “breathing its last.”

As per the Home Minister, 170 Maoists surrendered in Chhattisgarh on Thursday (October 16, 2025), while 27 had laid down arms in the State a day earlier. Another 61 cadres surrendered in Maharashtra on Wednesday (October 15, 2025).
