TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with BC JAC Chairman R. Krishnaiah and other leaders, who called on him to seek Congress party’s support to the BC bandh on October 18, 2025.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud reiterated the Congress party’s firm commitment to 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies, and declared full support to the BC JAC-called State-wide bandh on October 18.
Addressing BC community leaders at a meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, Mr. Goud reminded that the Congress had always stood for the empowerment and representation of BCs.
“Congress is unwavering in its resolve to ensure 42% reservation for BCs. As per Rahul Gandhi’s vision, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet conducted a comprehensive caste survey, and the State Assembly passed two bills in this regard, which are still pending implementation,” he said.
He asserted that the High Court and Supreme Court should settle the matter legally, adding that Congress will present strong arguments in the High Court to defend BC rights. He said the party remains committed to the Kamareddy Declaration, which ensures equitable opportunities for BCs and there is no question of going back on BC reservation.
Earlier, the BC association and various caste group leaders met him, seeking support for the bandh they had called on October 18.
The BC Joint Action Committee (JAC), which consists of about 170 BC associations and caste associations, is headed by Rajya Sabha MP R. Krishnaiah. He thanked Mr. Goud for extending support to the bandh, which would convey the sentiments of the BCs to all governments and political parties.
Mr. Krishnaiah said that all political parties must work to ensure that the High Court and the Supreme Court take a positive decision on the enhancement of BC reservation introduced by the Telangana government.
