The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) will intensify its campaign against the illegal liquor trade, targeting the coalition government and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders for allegedly endangering public health through the widespread distribution of spurious alcohol. The party will stage protests in front of Excise offices across all constituencies on Monday, October 13.
Acting under the directives of former Chief Minister and party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSRCP activists, leaders, and workers will submit memorandums to local Prohibition and Excise officials, demanding immediate action to curb the circulation of spurious liquor. The protests are likely to draw large participation from party members and supporters, reflecting growing public concern over deaths caused by toxic alcohol.
The YSRCP has called for urgent CBI investigations into the spurious liquor trade and urged the Excise Department to conduct extensive inspections of wine shops, permit rooms, bars, and belt shops statewide to expose networks behind the illicit trade. The party also demanded accountability for irregularities in liquor shop allocations, removal of unqualified licensees, and the return of liquor shop management under government supervision.
Other demands include reducing liquor sale hours, cancelling licences for shops operating near schools, temples, and public spaces, and providing support to families affected by alcohol-related deaths. The YSRCP warned that public health and safety in the State are at serious risk if the coalition government continues to ignore these issues.
In a release on Sunday, YSRCP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue protests until effective measures are implemented to curb the menace of spurious liquor and safeguard public health across Andhra Pradesh.
