Riding high on the e-literacy, the Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway, has achieved a significant milestone in digital ticketing, with one out of every five unreserved tickets now being taken by passengers through the RailOne Mobile Application.

The Division has emerged as one of the leading railway divisions under the Southern Railways in promoting the adoption of Indian Railways’ unified digital platform. RailOne’s usage in Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) bookings in the Division has reached an average of 20% of total UTS (unreserved ticketing system) tickets, with the figure often crossing 25% during weekends, demonstrating the increasing acceptance of digital ticketing among passengers, according to the southern railway officials.

The achievement is also part of the result of frequent awareness and outreach efforts undertaken across railway stations and trains throughout the Division by the railway authorities. RailOne serves as Indian Railways’ integrated digital platform, providing passengers access to multiple services through a single application.

In addition to reserved and unreserved ticket booking, the App enables users to easily access; Train Running and Time Table information, PNR status, Coach Position as well as order food, avail grievance redressal services Rail Madad, and utilise several other passenger-centric facilities. Passengers booking unreserved tickets through RailOne are also provided a 3% discount on the fare, making RailOne both convenient and economical.

The App allows passengers to book Unreserved tickets even before reaching the station, thereby avoiding queues at ticket counters and saving valuable travel time. Tickets can also be taken through RailOne at stations by scanning station-specific QR codes displayed on the premises, enabling quick selection of the originating station and seamless ticket booking.

To promote digital adoption, the Division has also conducted extensive awareness campaigns through passenger outreach programmes, live demonstrations, public announcements, distribution of informational materials, and direct engagement by railway staff and NSS student volunteers.

The Division has also recorded a substantial increase in the usage of Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). The share of tickets issued through ATVMs has increased by 10 percentage points over the last three months, reaching nearly 50% of total UTS ticket bookings, reducing dependence on ticket counters.

“The increasing adoption of RailOne reflects passengers’ growing preference for convenient, contactless and integrated digital services. Thiruvananthapuram Division will continue to promote technology-driven solutions that enhance the overall travel experience while making railway services more accessible and efficient,” said Nithin Norbert, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division.
