A bomb threat was reported at the residence of actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay, in Neelankarai, Chennai, early on Thursday (October 9, 2025) morning.

Police personnel, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), arrived at Mr. Vijay’s house in Neelankarai, ECR, at around 4.30 a.m. with a sniffer dog. They were, however, permitted inside only after Mr. Vijay woke up around 7 a.m. The security guards at the residence informed the team that Mr. Vijay was still asleep and could not be disturbed, the police said.

After being allowed in at 7.05 a.m., the bomb squad conducted a thorough inspection of the premises for about half an hour and declared that the threat was a hoax.

According to police sources, a phone call was received at the police control room around 2 a.m., claiming that a bomb had been planted at Mr. Vijay’s residence. Following the alert, the BDDS and local police immediately rushed to the spot.

The incident comes amid public outrage over the recent stampede during Mr. Vijay’s political rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives. So far, Mr. Vijay has not met the families of the victims in person.

This is the second time in 11 days that a bomb threat had been reported at Mr. Vijay’s residence. Similar hoax calls were received at the DGP’s office and the police control room on September 28 and again on Wednesday (October 7) night.
