Officials of the Prohibition and Excise (P&E) Department on Tuesday registered cases against 12 persons in connection with an alleged spurious liquor racket.

A team of officials from the department headquarters and NTR district conducted a raid on ANR Bar and Restaurant at Ibrahimpatnam on Monday and seized spirit, unlabelled liquor bottles, stickers, and empty bottles.

According to investigators, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, an accused in the spurious liquor manufacturing case at Mulakalacheruvu in Annamayya district, had obtained a licence to run the bar at Ibrahimpatnam. However, Janardhan Rao and his brother, A. Jaganmohan Rao, were allegedly operating an illegal liquor bottling unit at the premises, the P&E officials said.

“Cases have been registered against 12 accused, including Janardhan Rao, Jaganmohan Rao, and 10 others under the AP Excise Act, 1968,” Bhavanipuram Excise Circle Inspector T. Gopala Krishna told The Hindu on Tuesday.

The accused — Addepalli Jaganmohan Rao, and Badal Dasu and Pradeep Dasu of Odisha — were produced before the Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Court, the CI said.

“The court remanded the accused in judicial custody till October 17, and they have been shifted to jail. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused,” said NTR District Prohibition and Excise Officer S. Srinivas, who is monitoring the investigation.

Meanwhile, Excise personnel continued raids at various locations, including the Ibrahimpatnam bar and restaurant, for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.
