The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (October 26, 2026) staged nationwide protests against what it described as “derogatory” remarks made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father.

BJP workers held demonstrations in Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, demanding a public apology from the Congress leadership.

In Delhi, BJP leaders and workers protested near Sena Bhawan Circle and on Rajaji Marg, close to Mr. Kharge’s residence. State BJP president and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, along with other party leaders, participated in the protest. In Bihar’s Patna, party workers took out a “Jan Akrosh March” under the leadership of State BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi.

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak demanded an apology from the Congress leadership over the remarks. In Jammu & Kashmir, workers of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha also expressed their outrage, while a “dharna” was held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a demonstration was organised under the leadership of State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal also voiced their objections.
