The BJP has begun preparations for the forthcoming graduate MLC elections, with party State president N. Ramchander Rao calling upon leaders and cadres to work collectively to secure victory in both constituencies.

Addressing a preparatory meeting on graduate voter enrolment at the party’s State headquarters in Hyderabad, Mr. Rao stressed the need to ensure that every eligible graduate was registered as a voter and exercised their franchise.

MLCs A.V.N. Reddy and Malka Komuraiah, along with key leaders and in-charges of the two constituencies, attended the meeting.

Mr. Rao recalled the BJP’s electoral record in graduate constituencies, pointing out that the late V. Ramarao had won the Hyderabad Graduates’ MLC seat several times and that the party had also registered victories in other constituencies. He said the party’s success should be the priority, irrespective of who was selected as the candidate.

He asked party leaders and workers to intensify voter enrolment and create awareness among eligible graduates, their family members and friends about the registration process. Cadres should also take the initiative to ensure that registered voters turned out to vote on polling day, he said.

Claiming that the BJP enjoyed considerable support among educated sections and graduates, Mr. Rao urged party workers to highlight what he described as the failures of the Congress and the BRS and take the party’s message to the electorate.

He also alleged that foreign forces were behind the ‘vote chori’ campaign, which, he claimed, was aimed at undermining the country’s image.

N. Ramchander Rao may join the contest

Earlier, in a preparatory meeting to discuss candidates for the two vacancies, Mr Rao emerged as the favourite for the Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahbubnagar constituency, which he previously represented. Though there are several aspirants, Mr. Rao may be asked to contest, given his stature and the recent good performance of the BJP in the MLC elections.

For the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency, Thutupalli Ravi Kumar, who rose from the ABVP ranks, along with Biksham Goud, Ashok Goud, and a few others, are being considered.
