Senior Congress leader and former Manalur MLA P.A. Madhavan died at a private hospital in Ernakulam on Tuesday night. He was 80. Mr. Madhavan had been undergoing treatment after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident near Mundur in Thrissur in February this year. He died at around 11.14 p.m. on Tuesday.

He represented the Manalur Assembly constituency from 2011 to 2016. Mr. Madhavan began his socio-political journey at the age of 13, participating in student agitations during the Vimochana Samaram. Over the decades, he held various positions in the Youth Congress and the Indian National Congress and was regarded as ‘People’s leader’ . A licensed document writer since 1967, he remained active in public life even after his tenure as MLA.

The circumstances surrounding the road accident that left him critically injured remain under investigation following a complaint filed by his family raising suspicion over the incident. Mr. Madhavan is survived by his wife, Savithri, and sons Sameer and Samod.
